Challenges and adjustments

The COVID-19 pandemic challenged the business world in 2020 and provoked the decentralisation and digitalisation of thought processes in many companies. Co-creation workshops had to be quickly and effectively transferred to online formats. Systemically relevant companies in the medical sector are not only affected by the infrastructure, but are also under pressure to find solutions to new challenges. Twice as many solutions in half the time, all remotely, from one day to the other.

Digital development / Holistic approach

For product development and innovation at Sartorius AG, this meant developing a digital platform: existing content and processes were revised, improved, expanded and brought together in a digital infrastructure. The platform gives employees access to a pool of methods, workshop templates and training materials. This enables teams to work together worldwide. The digital platform is designed to be holistic and sustainable and is supplemented by an analogue method playbook and agile training courses, as well as a webcast series in which further information can be accessed on-demand. The dovetailing of digital and analogue media was a central challenge and focus point, not only to make the transition more pleasant, but also to combine the advantages of both worlds. The aim was to simplify product development through modular composability, networking and summarisation.

Promoting a culture of innovation

The initiative not only maintains the company-wide culture of innovation in times of the pandemic, but also proactively expands it. Expanding a location-independent co-creation infrastructure saves resources and, above all, time, as a ready-to-start workshop room is just a click away.
