A young talent embarked to his first start-up adventure. chilli mind gave his ship a compelling structure and a bold name. Since then, thousands of thirsty souls have been saved from drowning in a sea of dull beer.
Small budgets are no constrain – nor an excuse
Barely legal of age Arthur brew his first drafts. Leaving school he lost no time and started his very own micro brewery – a business that requires plenty of machinery, space and therefore capital.
His budget was tight. Therefore we had to move fast and keep things as simple as possible. The name was born literally within a minute. But come on. It simply was a no-brainer:
With its world-renowned theatre, a jazz club, high-quality gastronomic offerings and a micro brewery as its most recent add-on, the Schiffbau is one of Zurich's cultural hotspots. Alfred Escher had it built in the 19th century to construct ship turbines. As an entrepreneur and Swiss statesman of the first hour, Escher set the course for the rise, industrialisation and globalisation of our small country. His legacy is part of our obligation. That’s how a brewery from Schiffbau became Schiffbrau.
Even the visuals fell right to our feet. The imposing hall gates of the Schiffbau are iconic and everybody in Zurich knows them. Voilà. There was our visual brand. The rest is history. And Arthur a busy hustler, driving through town with his old Volvo. Loaded to the point where the axles are almost hitting the floor.
His most recent product innovation? A hop flavored mineral water, zero alcohol, zero calories. Of course we called it «Windstill».
Schiffbrau was pure gut feeling – and that’s exactly what it needed. No fuss, just bold decisions in no time. That’s what good design is about: clarity amid chaos.
