Service technicians and maintenance staff play a crucial role in automated production to reduce downtime and keep machines running. However, our observations showed that they are confronted with multiple unclear support requests every day. The major insight, however, was that searching for relevant information or certificates in printed manuals or in various sources is very time-consuming.
The Siemens SIOS-app was designed to make maintaining and repairing of the machinery easier for service technicians and maintenance staff. In collaboration with Siemens and external partners, we co-created time-saving features to ensure that the app efficiently supports actual workflows. User-friendly features such as barcode scanning enable simple and fast document access directly at the affected machine, helping users find important information quickly.
With over 300,000 documents available in the library and features such as optimized search, a customizable support cockpit and a forum for questions and answers, the app becomes an one-stop access point to help users work more efficiently. The service technicians now save a considerable amount of time, which is reflected in an overall increase in productivity thanks to the streamlined production processes.
The concept takes into account a continuous improvement process that enables adaptation to new needs based on user feedback, thereby ensuring scalability for a global audience. As the app continues to evolve, with new versions in development, it remains a vital tool for improving workflows in industrial environments. It not only simplifies complex processes, but also delivers measurable added value by reducing the time and effort required for routine tasks, thus further improving user-friendliness and efficiency in the industrial sector.
